Fellow ZKC Member,

Welcome to the Kansas City ARTCC (ZKC) Training Center.  Your exciting virtual ATC career begins here! This page will provide you with the necessary first steps a new member must take to begin his/her controlling career. Please review all the information below and, if you have questions, please feel free to contact a ZKC staff member!

Prior to beginning, please download the current ZKC Sector File found in the downloads section and then get online, observe, and ask questions.  Much can be learned by observing and listening to fellow ZKC controllers.

STEP 1: REVIEW TRAINING MATERIALS

All controllers are responsible for compliance with all VATSIM and VATUSA policies, and vZKC operating procedures and letters of agreement.  Documents specific to vZKC can be downloaded from the dontroller downloads section of the vZKC website.  As a new controller, it's your responsibility to read and become familiar with these materials.  As you progress through the various controller ratings will undergo a series of written and practical exams each designed to test your knowledge and familiarity with these procedures.  All practical exams will be conducted at the St.Louis-Lambert International (KSTL) airport.

Several cheat sheets are available for download and have been created to help you get started.  All vZKC training documents, cheat sheets, standard operating procedures, and reference materials are available for viewing and downloading here: http://zkcartcc.net/page-downloads/

Transferring controllers will also be expected to pass any and all vZKC written exams to demonstrate their knowledge of and compliance with local procedures.set up training dates and times.  In accordance with the VATSIM Global Ratings Policy, transferees with a rating of S1 or higher may work any vZKC facility for which they are rated except for the Kansas City International (KMCI) airport.  In order to control at KMCI, all controllers must successfully pass a certification consisting of written and practical exams administered by an instructor.

STEP 2: SCHEDULE TRAINING

Students will schedule a training session by e-mailing an instructor or mentor with proposed dates and times.  The instructor or mentor should reply to the request within 24 hours with an approval or denial.  Expect further guidance regarding training method (i.e., online or sweatbox) once the session has been approved.  Please remember the training staff has an open door policy, you may e-mail us for assistance at anytime. We are here for you!
